Program Insight

This program is designed to prepare students for immediate employment upon graduation. For students looking to continue their studies at four-year colleges and universities, it is recommended that they consult with an academic advisor and consider enrolling in the Business Administration AS program.

Program Course Layout

The core accounting courses in this program prepare the student with the specialized accounting terminology, concepts and applications present in the fields of financial, managerial, cost, and tax accounting. Here are just some examples.

ACC 101 Financial Accounting

Financial Accounting introduces the fundamental concepts that comprise financial accounting and generally accepted accounting principles, providing a strong foundation in basic accounting principles and techniques. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of business transactions in accordance with accrual basis accounting, the accounting cycle, financial statement preparation and analysis, the hallmarks of internal control, and coverage of accounting elements such as assets, liabilities, equity, and revenue and expenses.

ACC 137 QuickBooks Essentials

A hands-on introductory accounting course, Quickbooks Essentials, provides students with real-world exposure to use of the leading microcomputer accounting solution used by small to mid-sized businesses today, Quickbooks.

ACC 218 Federal Income Tax

This course covers federal tax law and regulations. It emphasizes the tax formula, gross income, exclusions, deductions, tax credits, gains and losses, and the computation of income tax liability. This course also provides practice in the preparation of individual tax returns and the preparation of tax returns for sole proprietorships.
