Perrella Gallery
Since its inception in 1999, the Perrella Gallery on the FMCC campus has become one of the pre-eminent exhibition spaces in our region.

Student Art Guild Club
Promote visual fine arts on campus and in the community through the hosting exhibitions, field trips and creative projects.

Graphic Arts and Photography Club
Students design logos, flyers and use their studio photography skills to help with design projects on campus and with local not-for-profit groups.

Individual Studies Advisor
Students will be assigned an academic advisor to guide you through your program.

Special Admission Requirements

Program placement is competitive and determined by the student’s personal interview with the Individual Studies Advisor and the Director of External Partnerships and Applied Learning, as well as site availability.

Internship Opportunities

Although similar to cooperative education and internship programs, the Individual Studies Certificate program requires that students learn basic career skills at job sites without pay.

Program Insight

Rao Theater Complex
The state-of-the-art facility doubles as an event space or a movie theater, and hosts everything from seminars to music performances. With recent upgrades we are now able to train students in live performance technology, audio, video, computer networking/programming, and more.

Do you love the Theater? Want to be a part of the great shows we have here on campus? Just want to listen in? Join them and have some fun!

Theater Productions
Performances are offered each fall and spring semester with students either acting on stage or working behind the scenes. Did you know students in any major can audition?

Students can either participate in the Theatre Practicum or an internship at various locations including Proctors Theater— the Capital Region’s destination for major Broadway shows, cutting-edge film festivals, and exciting special events.

Program Course Layout

The Entertainment Technology Program combines art and technology offering a variety of unique courses. Here are just some examples.

  • THR 120 Stagecraft

    The course provides students with theory and practice in the visual, aural, and construction facets of theatre, through attention to scenery, sound, and lighting equipment. Workshop is required.

  • COM 107 Digital TV & Broadcast Operations

    This course provides an introduction to the basics of television production. Students learn the basic procedures of live TV and field production. This includes operating cameras and control room equipment including, but not limited to, the switcher, teleprompter, audio board, and character generator. All stages of production are covered from pre-production to post-production including non-linear video editing.

  • ART 210 3D Digital Modeling

    An introduction to digital rendering and modeling utilizing the industry standard program Maya®. This course is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to create dynamic three- dimensional digital renderings and scenes. Students will acquire the analytical and critical thinking skills required to conceive, compose, produce and publish original digital renderings. Three-D composition fundamentals as well as concepts of motion will be covered in this course. Equipment will be supplied.

Program Course Layout

The Fine Arts program offers a variety of unique art courses to help your develop or refine your techniques.

  • ART 108 History of Modern Design

    A survey course that focuses on the applied arts and industrial design from the eighteenth century to the present day. The course explores the relationship between design, fine arts, manufacturing, and the technical, social and commercial contexts in which they were produced. The course also traces the cultural and historical influences on major design movements and the styles from a wide variety of global cultures, including those of Europe, Africa, Asia Oceania and the Americas. Students will gain exposure to a wide variety of applied design forms such as architecture, graphic design, furniture, product and commercial design as well as decorative art styles, through multimedia presentations and lectures.

  • ART 210 Three-D Modeling

    This course affords the student the opportunity to develop professional presentation and career skills for employment, college transfer, and exhibition opportunities. Topics include portfolios, resumés, presentations, and business matters of concern to artists. Hours of class per week.

Jason Radalin

Jason has been at the college since 1999, and teaches a variety of classes in the fields of Theater, English, Film, and Art.  He was key member of the group that spearheaded the major renovation of the Rao Theater in 2019, a venue in which he has directed over 50 productions.  Jason founded and coordinates the college’s A.A.S. degree in Entertainment Technology, a program that combines course work and practical work in live production, film/video, audio, and interactive media.  He works closely with local arts organizations such as Proctors Theater in Schenectady and The Rep in Albany.  In January 2018, Jason participated in a TEDxFMCC event, delivering a talk called Life of Theater: Low Tech/High Tech.  He has served as chair to the Humanities Division and has participated in numerous committees over the years. 

Joseph Marcuccio

Professor Joseph Marcuccio holds a BS in Print Management from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MS in Curriculum Development and Planning from SUNY Albany.

He is the instructor for the Media Arts and Digital Technology program at FMCC. His course offerings include: Digital Drawing and Illustration, Introduction to Web Design, Digital Photography/Adobe Photoshop, Packaging Design, Digital Publishing, Studio Photography and Media Design Seminar.

Professor Marcuccio is a U.S. Navy Veteran and worked as a lithographer at several sea and shore based Naval facilities. He was a Marketing Support Representative for AM International.

Joe taught at the American University of Rome in Rome Italy. He was awarded the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2013.

Professor Marcuccio is a long-time member of International Association of Printing House Craftsmen and past president and educational chair of the local Adirondack club.

He is a member of Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) of New York, the International Graphic Arts Education Association (IGAEA), Saratoga Arts /Arts Council and a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

Program Course Layout

The Media Arts and Digital Technology program offers a variety of unique courses to help you develop or refine your skillset. Here are a few examples.

  • DMT 120 Digital Photography/Photoshop

    This course introduces students to digital SLR cameras, ISO, memory, white balance, aperture priority, shutter priority, lenses, DNG, RAW files and manual camera settings. It includes photography fundamentals such as light, motion, depth of field, composition and exposure. Students learn how to use digital photography as a way to think visually to communicate and craft photo themes that tell a story.

  • DMT 250 Media Design Seminar

    This course emphasizes a capstone approach to digital and traditional portfolio design. Students plan their own design agency and corporate identity from conceptual stages to the final presentation. Students create pdf print media brochures, digital ads, marketing materials, publishing and interactive media using Adobe® CS applications. Students research college transfer requirements and employment opportunities. The course also emphasizes the concepts and basic principles of building a free-lance media business.

  • DMT 101 Digital Drawing and Illustration

    This course is an introduction to the development of basic skills and knowledge necessary to begin a successful digital communications and transmedia career. Course topics include generating creative ideas and concepts across digital media, creative thinking, and introduction to advertising campaigns, brand ideas, copywriting concepts and storytelling. Basic digital drawing techniques and digital software applications are taught to engage students to apply digital design concepts to cross-media advertisements.
